TSELA Advocacy Position Statment Related to the Science TEKS Review

This position statement was formally adopted by the TSELA Board after a member vote on July 9, 2020.

Related to the Science TEKS Review and Revision, TSELA asks that the State Board of Education (SBOE), TEA staff and members of the TEKS Review Committee consider the following:

    • TSELA recommends that standards are created by accessing research-based resources including “A Framework for K-12 Science Education.” Carefully considering integration of content, cross-cutting concepts, and science and engineering practices. Note: This may also be referred to as simply the Science Framework.
    • TSELA recommends that significant attention is given to intentional vertical and horizontal alignment within the revised TEKS.
    • TSELA recommends that adequate time is provided both for the workgroups and in the process for soliciting feedback in order to allow appropriate educator and expert engagement with the process.
